"No one was there to intervene for me, and I've learned that an intervention may have saved my family and I years of suffering. That's why I became involved in this work, the passionate belief that I can help people avoid some of the more severe personal and professional consequences I experienced."

Who We Are

Dr. James Tracy

Dr Jim Tracy is graduate of the Georgetown University School of Dentistry, a dentist who practiced general dentistry for 18 years, much of that in recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol.

In 1988, during his first year of recovery, Dr. Tracy joined the Bay Area Well-Being Committee for the California Dental Association. He became involved in helping other dentists deal with their own substance abuse problems, which led to his involvement in professional interventions. He later chaired that committee and went on to participate in intervention education and training programs.

In 1994, became affiliated with the Talbott Recovery Campus in Atlanta as its western program representative and Interventionist.
In 1997, he left active practice to develop an Impaired Physician Program for the Nevada Board of Medical examiners. This program allowed him to continue his work in intervention, referral to treatment, and monitoring of physicians who had experienced problems with chemical dependency and concurrent behavioral disorders.
Two years later Dr. Tracy was asked to develop a treatment program for impaired professionals at The Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California. He served as a vice president of the Center's Professional Recovery Program.
Today, Dr. Tracy, who has facilitated more than 500 interventions, is a nationally recognized lecturer and trainer in the area of family and peer interventions.

He currently serves as an Evaluation Committee Member for the California Medical Board’s Physician’s Diversion Program, the California Dental Board’s Diversion Program and the State Bar of California, Lawyers Assistance Program.

He travels nationally, educating professionals in recognizing signs of chemical dependency in their peers and patients.
